Tudor 1485-1560
Comfort during this period demanded more rooms with fireplaces, so clusters of elaborate chimneys were added to the many gables and turrets. Many properties were constructed with red brick often dressed with stone quoins, or in a criss-cross, herringbone or other pattern.
In the country properties were built around large oak frames to form grand buildings, with the panels (noggings) between the framing filled with brick or whitewashed plaster, creating the famous “black and white” Tudor style.
